ABOUT

Lana Okerlund is an experienced editor, writer, and indexer of non-fiction books, magazines, and web content. Biography, history, business, personal development, and the environment are just some of the subjects she has worked on for a roster of clients including self-publishing authors, businesses, trade / academic publishers, institutions, and associations.

A lifelong love of writing and reading stories motivated Lana to step away from a successful business consulting career in 2001 to pursue her true calling in non-fiction communications. After supplementing her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Certificate in Editing from Simon Fraser University, she began managing her own freelance editing, writing, and indexing business in 2004.

Connecting people through written ideas and stories is now her life’s work. Lana’s feature magazine articles have appeared in The Tyee and BC Business, and her book subjects include business leaders like Wendy McDonald of BC Bearing, Moray Keith of Dueck GM, and accounting / consulting firm Meyers Norris Penny.

Lana has also provided numerous self-publishing authors and organizations with editing, ghost writing, and indexing services, enabling them to reach their targeted readers with high-quality, professional books, websites, and other communications materials. Her project management skills bring extra value to every client and ensure work is done on-time and on-budget.

Writing workshops are another way Lana bridges her writing/editing skills and her business background. She developed a business report-writing course for management consultants in 2008, and was a contributing author of a proposal-writing workshop in 2006. Other courses are in development.

As a member of the Editors’ Association of Canada and the Indexing Society of Canada, Lana participates in regular professional development to hone her craft. She serves on the advisory board of the Editing Certificate program at Simon Fraser University, and until recently was a member of the editorial collective publishing Room, a literary magazine.
